Brief notes on two easy drinking reds, tasted 15 July 2011.
2009 Boschendal Pavilion Shiraz Viognier
B+
Plenty of sweet fruits on the palate and nose, slight burnt and heat too unfortunately; the viognier does help lift the wine. Acidity was fresh and rounded. Easy drinking.
2004 Stella Bella Cabernet Merlot
B+
To be honest, I'd forgotten I still had a bottle of this, bought a half case a couple of years ago as it was on offer and drinking well. This is still showing very well, mellowed out red fruits, really rather expressive and yet soft; the cabernet is taking the forefront, with some touches of greenness still showing. Juicy, very drinkable.
